New Addition, the Dashboard

We just pushed the new dashboard to the site. All of the links from your profile have been placed there along with a way to update your status and a list of status updates from your friends. The plan is to retire the blog for status updates and push them directly to you as well as provide more “tutorial” information for new users.

Next up, comments on status updates!

Status updates just got easier!

FYI - If you receive one and delete it, don’t be surprised when your account is terminated.

Private Chat

Last night we added private chat to the site. From the chat page, you can now create a public chat (with a name) that will show up on the list of chat rooms or a private chat. Private chat creates a chat room with a secret key. You can share the secret key with one friend or many friends and have your own private conversations.

Database Tweaks

You may not be aware, but we are constantly trying to improve performance of the site and trying to do so on a very minimal setup. The site currently only has 1GB of RAM allocated to it (don’t laugh ;) and this morning we tweaked the MySQL configuration a bit (thanks to the always helpful MySQL Performance Blog).

We’re still keeping an eye on the system monitors but overall the site seems to be a bit more responsive. We’re pleased :)

thank you for noticing :)

Image Comments

Find them below the images… same rules as regular comments, friends only.

“View All Photos”

If you click it, you get a page of photos for the user.

Photo comments are next.

Time to stop being lazy

Effective very soon, all relationship proposals and friend requests over 30 days old are going to be purged.

There will be no magic button to accept all requests because it would simply defeat the purpose of having a badge for having X friends. Badges are earned not handed out, and having an accept all would just make it too easy.

This is mainly an effort to clean up the data for users that haven’t logged on for a good long while (and possibly won’t ever be back) and help us to ensure you the best experience possible.

Inbox messages will eventually be going the same route but functionality to allow you to “favorite” a message will be put in place a week or so ahead of time. Expect a sent box around the same time.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The new request system should make it pretty easy to accept those requests quickly.
